How Dedicated Hosting Operates
When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 basic kinds - shared website hosting web servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers host multiple customers and hence the resources per account are restricted, VPS plans offer more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the independence to carry out everything you prefer without intervening with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated server?
16 GB DDR4 RAM
2x240 GB SSD Hard Drives
8 GB DDR3 RAM
2x480 GB SSD Hard Drives
Dedicated servers are traditionally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is very simple. If your firm has a heavy resource-consuming website, or just has very specific server configuration requirements, the most intelligent choice would be a dedicated server. For someone who is willing to invest in safety and reliability, the higher price is of no concern. You are granted full root-level access and can use 100 percent of the physical server's system resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and messing with your online portals.
Hardware specifications
Most hosting service providers, including us at Sharplogics, provide several different hardware configurations you can pick from on the basis of your requirements. The configurations include different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and disk drive sizes and different web traffic quotas. You can choose a web hosting Control Panel, which is useful software if you want to use the web hosting server for hosting purposes only and choose not to use a Secure Shell terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three sorts of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The Control Panel of your choice
If you are a self-assured Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server via SSH exclusively. That, though, could be inconvenient, even more so if you choose to give full root privileges to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software pre-installed is a smart idea. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel user interface that we offer does not offer full server root access and is mainly appropriate for somebody who owns a lot of web sites that require plenty of resources, but wants to manage the websites, databases and mail accounts using a user-friendly hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you root privileges and include 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages rather than utilizing the web server solely for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup services
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your web server, such as an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring system activated. Here at Sharplogics the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the company offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would permit you to have the same data on two disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full server root access deletes something by mistake.
